There’s something I’ve always wanted to ask some artists.
Why Moleskin?
What does a moleskin have more than a normal small size sketchbook, beside the shiny look when it’s closed or unused?
It’s not a critic, I’m just puzzled.

That’s just it, i’m not quite sure What it is. I picked one up in 2000 because of the size and have been hooked ever since.

Thanks for the sneak peek. I’ve always enjoyed seeing artists’ sketchbooks. It’s a little glimpse into the creative process.

I was originally lured into Moleskine by the little tag that Monet and Van Gogh had used them. Plus I love how the elastic strip holds it closed and it fits nicely in my hip pocket.

Me too, Dean.
For awhile, I tried every alternative to Moleskines. But in the end I didn’t find any other sketchbook I enjoyed as much as those little black banded books.

i plan on keeping a journal this summer, do you think a moleskine notebook would be good for that? i don’t want to spend all the money on one, and not like it. what i mean to ask is, what makes them so great?

Well, I tried out a bunch of cheaper notebooks but ended up coming back to Moleskines. For me it’s the size, the paper in the sketchbooks, and the durability. I have one on me all day everyday.
