The Styles are a Changin’

alabama lab

My DeD style is evolving (or so I hope). I always envisioned a clean, simple brush stroke look. Initially I moved towards that goal by locking up all the pens and only using a brush. But as I worked on the Alabama strips, I longed to complicate the style. Make it more mixed media, and by mixed I mean using several different pens.

In the past two months I’ve moved towards a more detailed look and added in a lot more black areas. The closest example of the end result I’m shooting for would be a Chris Bachalo style. Although I am planning on slipping in a shape based Mignola tribute strip soon. Whatever the outcome, I never want to stagnate, just want to keep ink flowing in exciting directions.
