Sad Day in Denver
The Denver Post dropped twenty one comics based on a reader poll. They kept almost all legacy strips. That should bring in new readers. You can read a bit more here:

Sadly it is to cut costs. Newspapers have a very negative view of comics. To them they are unnecessary expenses. So to keep their ever shrinking audience from flooding them with complaints, they usually can newer strips.

on a more positive note, I LOVED this part of the storyline, including today’s very very funny one!
