Interweb Glasses
| I am in the midst of shopping for eye glasses online. Gotta tell you, it’s pretty eye opening (pun sleepily not intended) to how much optometrists charge for frames and lenses.
The most expensive frames so far came to 99.80 with everything. And I mean everything: ultra thin polycarbonate lenses, uv, scratch and glare coatings etc. The pair I’ve settled on first are only $12.99 for the frames. Once they arrive I’ll report on how the value stacks up against the quality. Me on twitter: http://www.twitter.com/dogeatdoug

Good lord. I paid about $350 for my glasses, which I bought about 5 years ago. Well, the frames I chose were the first ones I tried on. Which turned out to be Chanel. I don’t care if they’re name brand or not, but I loved the way they looked and felt SO MUCH that I chose them. Plus, this is Sweden and those things do tend to be about 3 times as expensive as the States anyway. I still use them and love them… but I also spend about $100 twice a year for 1-day lenses which I use about 1/3 of the time. LOL

Ouch! They do have sites that specialize in discount name brand frames too. I just ordered mine. Grand total was $67. I’ll post a review when they arrive.

The thrill is definitely in the chase. Strange creatures we be.
Oh, yea, and glasses? I love how you think you’re spending around $70 and then in the end, with all the add-ons, it’s closer to $300. Tricksy they are.

I look forward to your review. The frames I usually get are Berkshire Chase and are usually pretty expensive, but it’s the lenses that kill me. I have to get featherweights or else risk having lenses too thick and heavy to fit in any wire frames. It almost always exceeds the amount the insurance is willing to pay.

I hear ya. My glasses just shipped out today, which is quite good considering I ordered them on Sunday. And I got the ultra thin lenses with all the coatings and it still only came to $67. The frames were $12, the lenses were $55 and those were the top of the line ones.
Of course I still need to report back on the quality. If you’re curious I ordered from http://www.goggles4u.com. Oh, and free shipping.
