On the first day of 2008 I spilled coke on my laptop. Fortunately all my files are on my desktop backed up by an external hard drive and Carbonite online. Just a matter of replacing some hardware. That's my quota of bad luck for '08 right?

I am so sorry!! I work in IT and you would be amazed at how many people spill stuff on thier PC’s. I am glad you had everything backed up. Maybe it is just getting all the bad luck out of the way now so you can have a GREAT year!!! Look at it that way!

Thanks. I can’t stress backing stuff up enough. I have everything backed up on an external hard drive and an online service.

I need to take advantage of online backups. I can just see my system blowing sky high

once you do it you don’t have to really think about it anymore. I recommend having one external hard drive and one online backup service. I use carbonite. Once you do the initial backup, it automatically or backs up files as they update or are changed.

Hey, Brian – I think spilling a soda on your laptop on the first day of the year is a very good sign. Now you’re pre-disastered for 2008.

I just noticed your blog. I spilled coffee on a work keyboard before and it was never the same again. I worked in IT and one user broke a jar of BBQ sauce all over her laptop. Don’t ask me how. We weren’t sure to fix or grill the laptop.

Now that makes me feel better. Mines back to working normal and I’ve cleaned all the sticky keys. Very lucky.
